Our blended cements

Blended cements are a mix of Portland cement and one or more supplementary cementitious materials (SCM). These combinations result in enhanced performance, such as strength, durability and resistance to chlorides and sulfates. But, they also make a significant contribution to sustainable construction since many SCMs are considered recycled materials.

Materials That Perform: St. Gen Cement Plant

The use of blended cements in concrete production consumes less energy and offers improved efficiency and building performance. And, blended cements may contribute to the achievement of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points.

Innovative approaches to cement formulation yield products with advantages in both performance and sustainability.

Supplementary cementitious materials – minerals used in varying proportions – are incorporated during the last phase of the Portland cement manufacturing process to produce a blended cement. SCMs can be of natural origin, such as natural pozzolans like pumice, or from industrial processes such as iron production and electric power generation.The use of SCMs in concrete reduces CO2 emissions. Because using SCMs in cement production reduces the proportion of clinker (the decarbonation phase of clinker production releases CO2), that reduction in CO2 is also beneficial in reducing the embodied CO2 in concrete.

MaxCem® Blended Cement

A blend of slag cement or granulated blast furnace slag and Portland cement, MaxCem® is suitable for use in virtually all concrete and concrete product applications.

Fly Ash

Added to cement, fly ash can improve workability and consolidation, as well as increase flexural and compressive strengths.
