NewCem® Slag Cement is a finely ground, granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), a product of the iron-making process. Through our extensive distribution system, we can deliver NewCem for blending with conventional Portland cement at the concrete plant to produce strong, high-quality, durable concrete.

Given its performance and sustainability benefits, we have led in the research and development of specifications for slag to enhance the performance of cement. Today, our knowledge and technical experience is unequaled by any other producer of slag cement. Discover its Benefits

Strength: When properly used, NewCem has been shown to increase the 28-day strength of concrete. NewCem provides strength and enhances the placeability and finishing characteristics of low-slump concrete. (Individual mix results will vary)

NewCem can increase the durability of concrete by:

  • Improving resistance to sulfate attack
  • Mitigating alkali silica reactions
  • Reducing concrete permeability
  • Helping control heat of hydration effects in mass concrete

NewCem’s ability to dramatically increase the durability of concrete makes it an ideal ingredient for high-performance concrete. Many state DOTs have specified NewCem for their high-performance concrete mixes.

The use of NewCem in concrete production consumes less energy and offers improved efficiency and building performance. NewCem, as a recycled material, may help achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points in the USGBC's (U.S. Green Building Council) and CaGBC’s (Canada Green Building Council) LEED programs.
